Several years ago, the PABCO Roofing Products production team embarked on the design of our first laminated shingle, PABCO Premier®. The team aimed to create something both unique and stylish. They sought to differentiate from other asphalt roofing options available, so a homeowner would have a distinctive-looking shingle for their home. At the same time, they were challenged to produce a classic look that would endure on a house, given that asphalt shingles typically remain on a rooftop for decades. Innovation was key to developing an asphalt product that was as visually appealing as a traditional shake roof shingle but not simply a replica of another roofing shingle.
After extensive competitive product research, the team concluded that all other laminated shingles on the market featured square or flared teeth. Through a period of experimentation and testing, they successfully created an elegant design with tapered teeth that stood out from the crowded rooftops. The new shingle design received positive feedback from both contractors and consumers. The distinctive design also minimized patterning, achieving the desired aesthetics. During the development process, it occurred to the team that a tapered tooth might be less prone to trapping the usual dirt and debris that accumulates on a rooftop, potentially contributing to a cleaner roof. In essence, the PABCO production team executed their vision with precision.
